Band Seniors Discuss Final Year Band Seniors Discuss Final Year: Seniors who participated in band at Union Springs High School had their last year altered by the pandemic. In what should have been their final year to participate in concerts, the students were instead only able to perform for one another. But within that, the students were able to forge strong relationships and had fun in band without any added pressures of performing before a packed audience. Union Springs Junior Wins Congressional Art Competition Union Springs Junior Wins Congressional Art Competition: By turning over a new leaf, Union Springs High School junior Angelia Scholz recently won U.S. Rep. John Katko’s annual Congressional Art Competition.   Scholz won the contest by submitting a charcoal portrait of her sister, titled, “Turning Over a New Leaf.” The piece has special significance to Scholz, as it was the first art she had done since her grandfather passed away. 2021-2022 School Budget Vote Passes 2021-2022 School Budget Vote Passes: The Union Springs Central School District 2021-2022 budget was approved by voters 278 to 30. Also approved was the bus proposition, allowing the district to establish a new 10-year capital reserve not to exceed $900,000 to be used for the acquisition of school buses. The community has also approved the funding of the Springport Free Library for a sum of $85,000. MS/HS Students Team Up To Grow Fruits & Veggies MS/HS Students Team Up To Grow Fruits & Veggies: Students in Mariah Pelzer’s high school science classes and Joseph Palmiotto’s middle school construction systems classes have teamed up to grow fruits and vegetables this spring. While Ms. Pelzer’s students started planting seeds inside, Mr. Palmiotto’s students built raised beds for when the seeds are ready to be transplanted to a larger area. The plants were recently taken outside, where they will continue to grow.
