Dear Union Springs CSD families:

We learned that five of our students at Union Springs Middle School, 1 student at the High School, 3 middle school staff members, and 1 AJ Smith staff member, are subject to a mandatory quarantine as a result of contact tracing, due to their interactions outside of school with individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19.  The Cayuga County Department of Health will be supporting these students and staff members in the coming days, and unless these individuals test positive themselves, the Cayuga County Health Department protocol states that additional contract tracing at school is not necessary at this time.

The Cayuga County Health Department determines if contact tracing, and/or quarantining is warranted.  Our district’s obligation to our school community is to support contact tracing by providing information if requested by the health department.

I share this information in an effort to be transparent regarding COVID-19 and its impact on our schools. We will continue to clean and disinfect our buildings, and encourage all of our students to continue to wear face coverings when social distancing cannot be maintained.  Please do not come to school if you are experiencing any symptoms.

If you have any questions regarding our COVID-19 procedures, please check our website under the Reopening Plans and Updates & COVID Protocol Information header. Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep our schools open and our students safe.

Dear Union Springs CSD Families:

This week 5 students tested positive for the corona virus (4 at the HS, and 1 at the Middle School).  Additionally, 13 students were quarantined as a result of their contact with individuals outside of school who tested positive for the Corona virus (3 at the HS, 2 at the Middle School, and 8 at AJ Smith).  The Cayuga County Health Department has cleared our return to in-person instruction for next week.  We will resume in-person instruction on January 20, 2021.  For our secondary students, January 20th is a B-Day.

I want to thank all of you for your support, help, and cooperation.  These past few weeks have been difficult for so many folks and your efforts to keep our students engaged in their studies has not gone unnoticed.  Please continue to follow public health guidelines in the days and weeks to come.  We know that our return to in-person instruction will mean the return of contact tracing and quarantines; please help us stay open by having your student stay home if they are experiencing any symptoms. We look forward to seeing our students next week! Thank you again!

At this time, any new elementary entrants to our district will be assigned to remote learning until space opens for additional in-person classroom instruction. The secondary grades have very few in-person spaces available, and new entrants may be assigned to remote learning as well. We have tried our best to meet everyone's requests for both in-person and remote learning, but we simply do not have the flexibility to keep up with an influx of new students who are now requesting in-person instruction.

Transportation policy is set by the Board of Education of the Union Springs School District. All students living within the Union Springs School District are eligible for transportation to and from school.

Changes in Regular Transportation Procedures... The Union Springs School buses will transport students to any child care provider within the District's boundaries. Parents must provide this information in writing to the school in which their child attends prior to the beginning of the school year. Parents must also notify the school in writing, at least one week prior to any long term change in child care arrangements.

Requests for transportation other than to designated child care providers or home must be submitted in writing to your child's school at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance.

All students must ride only their assigned run.

Regular transportation shall be provided to and from school once daily and shall be provided according to the following guideline:transportation between the bus stop and public or private schools located within the district.

Students in grades K-6 will be provided transportation, students in grades 7-12 will be provided transportation if the distance is greater than one (1) mile. Pick up points in the Villages of Union Springs and Cayuga may be established by the Transportation Director.

Click here for the 2020-21 bus schedules.

The parents or guardian of a parochial or private school child residing in the school district who desires that the child be transported to a parochial or private school outside of the School District during the next school year should submit a written request to the Board of Education no later than April 1 of the preceding year, or within thirty (30) days of moving into the District. No late request of a parent or guardian shall be denied where a reasonable explanation is provided for the delay.

When Union Springs Central School District has a scheduled closing due to holiday, Superintendent's Conference Day or due to bad weather conditions, Union Springs Central School District will not provide transportation for students attending private schools or special education programs.

If Union Springs Central School District has an emergency closing, all private and special education programs will be notified that students will be picked up early and transported home.
