Dear Union Springs CSD Families:
Today we learned that two of our student at AJ Smith are subject to a mandatory quarantine as a result of contact tracing, due to their interactions outside of school with individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19. The Cayuga County Department of Health will be supporting these students in the coming days, and unless these students test positive themselves, the Cayuga County Health Department protocol states that additional contract tracing at school is not necessary at this time.
Further, we learned that one of our remote middle school students has tested positive for the corona virus. This student has not been in school for in-person learning this school year.
The Cayuga County Health Department determines if contact tracing, and/or quarantining is warranted. Our district’s obligation to our school community is to support contact tracing by providing information if requested by the health department.
Additionally, we tested 40 students for COVID-19 based on parental consent. All students tested, were negative. This represents about 5% of our overall student population.
I share this information in an effort to be transparent regarding COVID-19 and its impact on our schools. We will continue to clean and disinfect our buildings, and encourage all of our students to continue to wear face coverings when social distancing cannot be maintained. Please do not come to school if you are experiencing any symptoms.
If you have any questions regarding our COVID-19 procedures, please check our website under the
Reopening Plans and Updates & COVID Protocol Information header. Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep our school open and our students safe.
Sincerely,
Jarett Powers
Superintendent
