(December 4, 2018) - In November, students at Union Springs Middle School put on a marvelous performance of Elf The Musical, JR., highlighting just some of the amazing talent in our schools.
The musical followed the story of a young orphan named Buddy (Hailee Smith) who mistakenly crawls into Santa's (Nadine Cioffa) bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa's permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father (Olivia Sochan) and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and that his half-brother (Sophia Testa) doesn't even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.
“Just imagine if we all had a little bit of Buddy’s holiday spirit every day,” said Jennifer Gordon, musical directory and fourth grade teacher at A.J. Smith Elementary.
“Buddy’s positivity is contagious. We can all use a little bit of that attitude on the dreary, cold, fall days or the muddy, cold, and overcast spring days.”
