USHS Celebrates National Honor Society Induction Ceremony
Last week, Union Springs High School hosted its annual National Honor Society (NHS) Induction Ceremony, recognizing students for their exceptional achievements in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The evening commenced with a warm welcome from Principal Jason Dental, followed by an address from Union Springs Central School District Board of Education President Daniel Testa, who congratulated the students on their hard work and dedication.
The ceremony was led by Chapter President Devin Platt, who provided attendees with a brief history of the NHS and explained the significance of the "Candle of Knowledge." Following this introduction, current NHS members presented "The Four Pillars of NHS." Chapter Vice President Alexandra Batruch spoke about the importance of scholarship and lit the green candle, symbolizing academic achievement. Chapter Secretary Catherine Ciampi emphasized the value of service and lit the red candle. Chapter Treasurer Kate Besnar addressed leadership and lit the blue candle, and President Platt concluded by discussing the pillar of character, lighting the white candle.
The highlight of the evening came with the induction of new NHS members. Each inductee was called to the stage to receive a certificate and pin, while candles were lit to symbolize their commitment to the society's values. The following students were inducted: Asa Brown, Stephen Case, Gracie Chalupnicki, Ellen Crowley, Michael Culver, Kayla Darling, Jennifer Daum, Paityn Delaney, Ella Dougherty, Michael Feocco III, Madison Kalet, Anna McKay, Allie Parker, Charles Patterson, Alex Smith, Lilyana Thornton, Abbigail Tracy, and Madison Ward.
After receiving their honors, the newest NHS members raised their right hand and recited the NHS pledge, officially joining the ranks of the society. They join the current NHS members, including Kurt Akins, Alexandra Batruch, Kate Besnar, Carter Botindari, Catherine Ciampi, Ainsley Francis-Biter, Aaron Johnson, Abigail Kozub, Ryan Luczyski, Makenna Pantolianno, Shane Perkins, Devin Platt, Caroline Smead, Paige Smith, Jack Walters, and Chloe Wilde.
The ceremony was a celebration of the students' hard work and dedication, highlighting the pillars of the NHS and inspiring both inductees and current members to continue upholding these values in their academic and personal lives.
