Union Springs FFA Attends First Event at Ignite Leadership Conference
Union Springs High School’s brand-new FFA chapter recently attended its first official event—Ignite, hosted at Penn Yan Academy. This exciting leadership conference brought together FFA members from across the region, providing students with the opportunity to learn more about FFA, connect with fellow members, and take on challenges designed to develop their leadership skills.
Throughout the event, students engaged with New York FFA State Officers and Alumni, who encouraged them to step outside their comfort zones and discover ways to become stronger leaders in their own lives and communities. Hands-on activities and interactive sessions helped students build confidence, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of what it means to be a part of FFA.
Alyssa Roorda, Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor for both Port Byron and Union Springs Central School Districts, expressed her enthusiasm for the impact this first event had on the students.
"It was inspiring to see our students dive right into this experience. They walked away motivated, connected with peers from other schools, and excited for the future of FFA at Union Springs. This is just the beginning of an incredible journey for them," Roorda said.
As Union Springs’ FFA chapter continues to grow, events like Ignite will serve as stepping stones in shaping students into future leaders in agriculture, business, and beyond. The chapter looks forward to upcoming opportunities to expand their knowledge, engage in competitions, and build a lasting FFA legacy at Union Springs High School.
