Elementary Students Meet with Wolves in Virtual Field Trip

A.J. Smith Elementary students were able to visit with some real wolves thanks to a virtual field trip with the International Wolf Center.

The Wolf Center, which is located in Minnesota, is home to several species of wolves, including gray wolves and arctic gray wolves. The mission of the center is to advance the survival of wolf populations by teaching about wolves, their relationship to wildlands and the human role in their future.

The virtual field trip was a part of the A.J. Smith Elementary Library's continued study of wolves. Each year, the library selects a specific theme and studies that theme throughout the year.

During the visit, students had the opportunity to ask personnel from the center several questions, including:

"How much do they eat each day?"

"Are you ever afraid of the wolves?"

"Do the wolves get bored?"

"Can the wolves be returned to the wild?"

"How much do they walk each day?"
