Kalet Signs Letter of Intent

Years of hard work, dedication and commitment have paid off for Union Springs High School senior Kailey Kalet, who recently signed her national letter of intent to play basketball at Division I Loyola University Maryland.

Kalet, who is believed to be the first student in district history to sign a D-1 scholarship for basketball, thanked everyone who helped her get to this point during a special signing ceremony held at the high school. Family, friends, teammates, coaches, district staff and Board of Education members were present for the special announcement.

“I would like to start by thanking everyone for coming today. Every single person in this room made an impact on my journey in one way or another, and I’m so appreciative and lucky to have you all,” she said. “I’ve always dreamed of playing college basketball, but I could have never imagined I would be standing here one day.”

Kaley said three years ago she began chasing her dream of playing D-1 basketball, and from that day forward she never looked back. Kalet thanked her teammates, coaches and family members for helping her to achieve her goals.

“I’m excited to announcement my commitment to play Division I basketball at Loyola University Maryland,” Kalet said to end her speech.

Union Springs Athletic Coordinator Todd Salls noted how proud the district is for all of Kalet’s accomplishments.

“Kailey has not only been an integral part of our basketball program, but she’s been a three-sport athlete,” said Salls. “Kailey, we would like to say how proud we are for all that you’ve accomplished and congratulate you on this milestone.”

Director of Operations Kevin Casler read a prepared statement from Kailey’s father and head coach, Andy Kalet, which in part congratulated Kailey for putting in the hard work that allowed her to reach her goals.

“She is the definition of where hard work can get you. Her determination hasn’t only helped her on the basketball court, but has carried over into her academics,” the statement read.

Union Springs Central School District would like to extend a big congratulations to Kailey and the Kalet family!
