Rooted in Union Springs: Meghan Mennerich Named AJ Smith Principal for 2025-26

We are excited to announce that Meghan Mennerich will be the new principal of Andrew J. Smith Elementary School, beginning in the 2025-26 school year. Mrs. Mennerich will step into the role following the retirement of longtime principal Sheila LaDouce, whose impact on the school and community has been both meaningful and lasting. While Mrs. LaDouce leaves behind big shoes to fill, we are confident that Mrs. Mennerich is more than ready to lead our youngest Wolves into their next chapter.
Mrs. Mennerich comes to us from Casey Park Elementary School in the Auburn City School District, bringing a wealth of experience in elementary education. But this isn’t just a professional move — it’s a homecoming. A proud Union Springs resident since fourth grade, Mrs. Mennerich is a product of our community and a strong believer in its values.
“As a former student, it’s truly an honor to return and lead the building that helped shape who I am today,” she said.
Mrs. Mennerich is not only an educator but also a parent. Her three children — Sophia (15), Adrian (12), and Bryce (9) — are students in the district, giving her a personal, vested interest in the success of Union Springs schools.
“As a parent of children in elementary, middle, and high school, I’m actively involved at all levels of the district,” she said. “This perspective allows me to see the full scope of our students’ experiences and deepens my commitment to ensuring a strong, supportive path from kindergarten through graduation.”
When asked what she loves most about the district, Mrs. Mennerich described Union Springs as a “strong wolf pack — united and full of pride in all aspects of our schools.” She emphasized how that pride is visible in the support our students receive — in classrooms, on the field, and on stage — and how that collective effort helps students thrive.
Looking ahead, Mrs. Mennerich is most excited to be a part of the district’s continued growth, particularly at AJ Smith Elementary.
“Our students are always growing, and their needs evolve year to year,” she said. “It’s important that we grow alongside them. I’m especially excited to work with our youngest learners and help set the tone for their entire educational journey.”
Please join us in giving Mrs. Mennerich a warm Union Springs welcome. We can’t wait to see the energy, insight, and heart she brings to the AJ Smith community!
