Union Springs Celebrates the Class of 2025 at Commencement Ceremony

On a cloudy—but thankfully dry—evening, the Union Springs High School Class of 2025 gathered on the lawn to celebrate a major milestone: graduation.
The ceremony opened with a heartfelt welcome from Principal Mr. Jason Dentel, who noted how special this graduating class is to him. This year marked the first time he had the opportunity to watch a class grow from first-year students all the way to seniors during his four years as principal.
Ruth Parks then took the stage to lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ruth, who will soon join the United States Army National Guard, stood proudly as a symbol of leadership and service. The Singers of the Select Choir followed with a moving rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner.
Superintendent Dr. Jarett S. Powers gave the official welcome address and surprised each graduate with a framed photograph of the front of the high school—a lasting keepsake. “Posts, TikToks, and tweets may disappear,” he said, “but a picture is worth a thousand words.”
Class Salutatorian Carter Botindari shared his reflections on the many memories made throughout their time at Union Springs, while the Singers of the Select Choir returned to perform the Alma Mater, filling the evening with school pride and emotion.
Class Valedictorian Devin Platt offered a powerful speech centered on the theme of fear—and how to overcome it. Her message resonated with classmates as they prepare to take their next steps into the world.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. William A. Walters, a Union Springs graduate himself from 25 years ago. Drawing on his service in the military—including multiple tours in Iraq—Dr. Walters encouraged students to never fear failure. Citing leaders like Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, he emphasized that great successes often follow great setbacks.
Mr. Dan Testa, President of the Board of Education, joined Dr. Powers for the Presentation of Diplomas, while Class Advisor Mr. Joseph Palmiotto handed each graduate a carnation—a final, personal gesture of congratulations.
And then, in one joyful, unforgettable moment, the graduates tossed their caps into the sky.
🎓 Congratulations to the Union Springs Class of 2025! Your journey is just beginning, and we can’t wait to see what you do next.
