Union Springs High School is proud to announce that senior Ellen Crowley has been named a Commended Student in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized this year for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2026 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the competition by taking the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).
“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.”
Principal Jason Dentel shared his pride in Crowley’s achievement. “We are incredibly proud of Ellen for earning this recognition,” Dentel said. “Her hard work, dedication, and academic excellence represent the very best of Union Springs High School. This honor is a testament to her commitment to learning and her bright future ahead.”
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition for recognition and scholarships. Commended Students are among the top 3-4% of scorers nationwide, showcasing their strong potential for continued academic success.
