US Sweeps 52nd Annual Cayuga County Holiday Basketball Tournament

Union Springs basketball delivered a dominant performance at the 52nd annual Cayuga County Holiday Basketball Tournament, as both the girls and boys varsity teams captured championship titles Monday at Cayuga Community College with convincing wins over Port Byron.
Girls Basketball
Led by stifling defense and fast-break scoring, the Union Springs girls basketball team earned its fifth consecutive Cayuga County Holiday Basketball Tournament championship, defeating Port Byron 61–39 in the title game.
Jennifer Daum scored a game-high 23 points, Allie Parker added 15, and Madison Kalet, who was named Tournament MVP, finished with 12 points to lead the Wolves.
With the victory, Union Springs claimed its eighth overall tournament title, tying Southern Cayuga for the second-most championships in tournament history. The Wolves trail only Weedsport, which has won the tournament 10 times.
Boys Basketball
The Union Springs boys basketball team followed with an emphatic performance, using a hot start — highlighted by a buzzer-beating dunk — to secure an 82–60 win over Port Byron and its fourth straight tournament championship.
Rocco Testa, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, led the Wolves with 31 points. Nevin Brown scored 19 points, and Cooper DeChick added 15 in the championship victory.
With the win, Union Springs captured its 18th Cayuga County Holiday Basketball Tournament title, the most of any school in the event’s 52-year history. Weedsport ranks second with 16 titles, followed by Southern Cayuga (10) and Port Byron (8).
JV Championships
Union Springs also claimed both junior varsity championships, as the girls JV team defeated Southern Cayuga and the boys JV team topped Port Byron in their respective title games.
It marks the second consecutive year Union Springs has swept all four tournament championships — varsity and junior varsity — underscoring the strength and consistency of the Wolves basketball program.
