USHS Welcomes New National Honor Society Members During Spring Induction Ceremony

Union Springs High School proudly recognized nine outstanding students during last week’s National Honor Society (NHS) Spring Induction Ceremony, celebrating their achievements in scholarship, leadership, service and character.
The ceremony began with a welcome from Union Springs High School Principal Jason Dentel, who congratulated the inductees and their families on this significant accomplishment.
Dan Testa, President of the Union Springs Central School District Board of Education, followed with remarks about the importance of the National Honor Society’s four pillars. He emphasized how scholarship, leadership, service and character continue to play an essential role in helping students succeed long after graduation.
Current NHS student leaders then guided the audience through the history and traditions of the organization. Chapter Vice President Jennifer Daum shared the history of the National Honor Society and introduced the Candle of Knowledge.
Several members then spoke about each of the four pillars represented by colored candles:
- Anna McKay, Chapter Secretary, spoke about Scholarship and the green candle.
- Claire Baliva spoke about Service and the red candle.
- Tessa Love spoke about Leadership and the blue candle.
- Jennifer Daum concluded by speaking about Character and the white candle.
The ceremony continued with the traditional candle-lighting, followed by the presentation of certificates and NHS pins. Each new inductee was escorted to the stage by current National Honor Society members.
To conclude the ceremony, Principal Dentel led the National Honor Society Pledge and formally introduced the newest members of the Union Springs High School chapter.
