Union Springs Students Get Behind the Wheel of Trucking Careers

Union Springs High School students recently had the opportunity to get behind the wheel—virtually—as part of another hands-on Work-Based Learning experience designed to introduce students to careers in the transportation and diesel technology industries.
On September 30, Rusty Stetzl, Workforce Development Coordinator at TANY, brought his mobile trucking simulator to the Union Springs campus. The experience gave students interested in commercial trucking, diesel technology and earning a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) an inside look at potential career pathways.
“Rusty shared information about the current and future job market in the trucking industry,” said Matt Gonio, Union Springs Work-Based Learning Coordinator. “He also guided students through the simulator process, which allowed them an opportunity to experience driving both an automatic and manual transmission truck.”
Through the mobile simulator, students were able to experience some of the skills and decision-making involved in operating a commercial vehicle—all while learning more about the opportunities available in the industry.
For students considering a career behind the wheel or under the hood, the experience was a great way to “test drive” a future career in the trucking and diesel technology industry!
